Welcome
Welcome to the 2026 International Symposium on Artificial Intelligence and Societal Challenges organized by the Institute of Information Service Science (ISS) and the Computer Science Center (CUI) of the University of Geneva to be held on 13 March 2026. It will focus on:
AI and Societal Challenges
Education, Ethics and Humanitarian Action
The symposium aims to build a vibrant, interdisciplinary community of researchers and practitioners dedicated to exploring AI and Societal Challenges. This community will foster meaningful knowledge exchange and create strong links between theoretical advances and real‑world applications.
The expected outcomes include the conception and launch of new scientific initiatives, such as the development of an international scientific journal, and the establishment of a recognised recurring event that becomes a reference point for this important topic.
This year's edition focuses on education, ethics, and humanitarian action, three domains where AI is reshaping practices and raising new questions. These themes are expected to evolve in future editions, in line with emerging technologies, societal needs, and global priorities.
The International Symposium serves as an expert meeting space, bringing together university professors, researchers, educators, and members of the international community. It also welcomes representatives from the private sector, civil society, and governmental organisations, encouraging dialogue across sectors and fostering collaboration toward responsible and impactful AI development.
The Symposium is organized by the Institute of Information Service Science (ISS) and the Computer Science Center (CUI) of the University of Geneva.
The Symposium also associates UNESCO Chair of the University of Strasbourg 'Journalistic and media practices – Between globalization and cultural diversity' and 'UNESCO Chair on Language Policies for Multilingualism'. It also associates the UNESCO African Office of Addis Ababa.
